Type-Simple

Fat, wobbly typewriter slab with ink-blotted edges

Type-Simple title
Type-Simple character map

Type-Simple is a heavy, ink-bled typewriter font. Each letter is a slab serif shape, but the edges are soft and lumpy, as if a worn typewriter key pressed too much ink into the paper. Counters (the holes in letters like a, e, g and 8) fill in or shrink to small slits, and no two letters have quite the same outline. The result feels handmade and a little messy on purpose.

Where it works

  • Zine covers, flyers and gig posters that need a photocopied, DIY feel
  • Ransom-note and true-crime style headlines
  • Retro book titles and old-office or typewriter themed designs
  • Short bold quotes on social posts

Tips

Type-Simple is very bold, so it is best at large sizes with generous letter spacing. The tiny counters can clog up when it is set small, so keep body text in a clean serif or sans serif and use this font for the headline only. It includes uppercase, lowercase and numerals plus basic punctuation such as the exclamation mark, parentheses, plus, minus and equals. It has no @, #, $ or % symbols, so check any text that needs them.
