Heavy gothic blackletter caps with ornate, swashed capitals

Blackletter ExtraBold is a heavy gothic typeface in the old Fraktur and Old English tradition. Thick, tightly packed strokes and sharp diamond serifs give it the look of medieval manuscripts and newspaper mastheads, while the curled flourishes on capitals like A, E, F, K and Z add real ornament. The character map covers upper and lowercase letters, numerals 0-9 and a handful of symbols, so it works for full words, not just initials.

Using it well

Blackletter is hard to read in all caps, so set names and short titles in mixed case and keep body text in a plain serif or sans. For pairing, try it with a clean sans like Montserrat or a classic serif like Garamond.
